Trinity School of Medicine Releases Fall 2017 Admissions Interview Schedule

Trinity School of Medicine’s fall interview schedule opens the door to students that sought matriculation in September of 2017 and didn’t find the right school. It gives them the opportunity to thrive not just in our small (25 student) January class, but also launches those interested directly into May or even the subsequent September start dates. This is a critical time saver for students who wish to start their medical journey sooner rather than later, and don’t want to roll the dice on an additional admission cycle in the US after waiting another year. Today, we’re going to get into the whys and wherefores about how Trinity’s process works, and why we might be the opportunity you’ve been looking for.

First, let’s look at the schedule for this year. While these are our current dates, this is by no means the final list. Check this page (or click any of the cities below) frequently, as dates and locations will be added.

Above, we mentioned an opportunity and what this interview tour can mean for applicants. Rolling admission at Trinity, and its three separate start dates, are more than just a chance to start medical school, though. It’s about strategic scheduling for our students.

The January entry term is historically our smallest incoming class, at around 25-30 students. That’s it. That’s the whole class. We pride ourselves in living up to the ideals and benefits of small classes. Even our September class is around 75 students, which is downright intimate by most Caribbean school standards. With January, we have an opportunity to make those connections even closer, to let students that absolutely thrive in that tight-knit environment do so and start their time at Trinity off on the right foot. It doesn’t stop there, either. A January start date gives students entering on our very successful Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) track an ideal timeline to match up to the residency application timeline in their fourth year, further leveraging their chance of success.

May is similarly opportune. Students starting in May of 2018 have the benefits of January’s small class (also typically 25-30 students), while also enjoying an extra term’s worth of time to prepare for the USMLE Step-1 exam. This is also an excellent time for students that would previously be interested in September 2018 to start, but opt for our ILP program; they would still graduate with their September peers (at no additional tuition cost). Finally, a May start lets students maintain momentum from undergrad or whatever it was that lead them to medical school, and move directly into the next phase of their education. There’s no bad time to start at Trinity School of Medicine, but for some students, there are best times.

Finally, let’s talk briefly about the interviews, themselves. Medical school interviews are a major component of the admissions process and should be considered a significant milestone by prospective students. Excellent doctors are individuals with compassion, drive, and the desire to make a difference. Characteristics like these are difficult to assess from grade point averages and MCAT scores alone.

This is why at Trinity, we endeavor to personally meet with as many qualified individuals as possible as part of our holistic approach to admissions. To facilitate this, we send admissions team leaders to cities across the U.S. and Canada to meet one-on-one with prospective students, in person and close to home (or school). This is also why we position the interview at the beginning of the admissions process rather than the end. Too many fantastic physicians have been overlooked by blemishes on transcripts that, ultimately, do not reflect their full capabilities or potential. We like to make sure our applicants have an opportunity to provide context to their transcripts, tell us their story, and show us their drive and commitment to their future in medicine. It works, too.

Before we wrap up, check out the infographic below. It should give you a solid look at how the process works, what to expect, and what your next steps will be. We’re looking forward to meeting you!
