This loan program provides rates and terms that are competitive with Federal PLUS Loans for Graduates, and in many cases offer better rates. The terms of the loans themselves are where this program stands out.
These terms offer a major advantage over other loan programs both private and federal. With no loan fees, an extended 3 year grace period and no capitalization of interest until the end of the grace period, the Sallie Mae Medical School Loan can save borrowers more than $16,000 as compared to the other private and federal options.
Sallie Mae is the only loan provider that offers dedicated financial assistance specifically for the residency process. It’s Global Residency Application and Relocation Program offers up to $30,000 to assist with board examination fees (Step Exams), residency application fees, interview travel, and moving expenses for your medical residency.
Students are encouraged to utilize a qualified co-signer to support their loan application as it may result in a better interest rate. Co-signers must meet the income and other credit requirements. All student loan applications are electronically submitted. Once you have been accepted to Trinity School of Medicine and submitted your initial commitment deposit, you will be able to complete your application with Sallie Mae and/or one of our other providers.
It is advisable that students obtain their credit score from all three major credit bureaus to ensure their credit rating is based on the most current and accurate data. You’re entitled to one free copy of your credit report every 12 months from each of the three nationwide credit reporting companies. The only federally authorized source for for obtaining your free annual credit report is annualcreditreport.com.
